Students are fitted with a radio hearing aid system to maximise their listening skills in the classroom. They are provided with receivers and audio input shoes. Each classroom has a dedicated transmitter. Hearing aids, cochlear implants and radio aid systems are checked on a daily basis by the form tutor. Batteries are supplied to students in an emergency, but students are encouraged to bring spare batteries to school. Parents are required to provide replacement batteries to the school at the end of each term.
Teaching assistants are responsible for managing the radio aid system when students go into lessons at Monks Walk. A number of classrooms are fitted with sound field systems to support the listening environment.
