School fundraising news – 26th March 2018

Did you know there are over 29,000 children in the UK today with Type 1 Diabetes? Did you know that the UK has the highest rate of Type 1 Diabetes in the world?

Type 1 Diabetes is not caused by poor diet or an unhealthy lifestyle. It is an autoimmune disease where the body’s immune system attacks and destroys its’ own insulin producing cells. The JDRF ( has been working for over 3 decades to fund research that will cure, treat and prevent Type 1 Diabetes and its complications.

Inspired by this, the pupils and students at Knightsfield School in Welwyn Garden City decided to fundraise to support the JDRF’s vital work. A Post-16 student organised a sunflower growing competition during the summer term with entry donations going to the charity and a summer fete added to the total of £215 collected.

On 26th March, the Knightsfield School donation was presented to the JDRF at a special assembly.
